*****Here is a side by side comparison of Nutrex BioAstin Hawaiian Astaxanthin (12 mgs), Nutrex MD Formula BioAstin Supreme (6 mgs), and Nutrex BioAstin Hawaiian Natural Astaxanthin (4 mgs).Astaxanthin is a red-pink substance found in various seafoods such as salmon, trout, krill, lobster and cooked shrimp. It is responsible for the reddish color of salmon meat, cooked shellfish and flamingo feathers. Astaxanthin is derived from microalgae called Haematococcus Pluvialis. It is grown on land in controlled, fresh water ponds and contains no fish or shellfish bi-products. Natural Astaxanthin has no known side effects or contraindications.Astaxanthin is a non-vitamin carotenoid compound considered to be the most stable of all carotenoids. Carotenoids are pigment colors in nature. While research is somewhat limited, it appears to be a better carotenoid than the more researched lutein and zeaxanthin.Astaxanthin is an excellent supplement that supports the whole body. Folks who have taken Astaxanthin have noted its anti-inflammatory properties, reduced joint and muscle pain, a fading of brown age spots and sun spots, improved skin tone and color, improved vision, increased energy, reduced fatigue, sunscreen properties, lower pulse rate, improved mood orientation, improved urination, and heightened libido.At doses of 6-12 mgs daily, Astaxanthin can decrease the oxidation of LDL cholesterol and prevent it from becoming artery clogging. Some folks don't care for sorbitol.OPINION: In my opinion, Nutrex BioAstin Hawaiian Astaxanthin (12 mgs), Nutrex MD Formulas BioAstin Supreme (6 mgs), and Nutrex BioAstin Hawaiian natural Astaxanthin (4 mgs) are excellent products in terms of quality and purity.From a personal perspective, within a short period of time, I have noticed that Astaxanthin has helped lower my blood pressure (from 120 over 80 to 110 over 68), reduced joint pain, particularly on cold damp days, faded sun spots on the back of my hands, and promoted sounder sleep. I take Nutrex BioAstin Hawaiian Astaxanthin (12 mgs) because I think a larger amount of Astaxanthin (6 mgs to 12 mgs) is beneficial. I've been taking 12mg of Astaxanthin daily for several months now. I really like how it has decreased my joint pain, increased my energy and reduces the "tired" look in my face and eyes. I like Nutrex 12mg capsules because now I only have to take one pill instead of three.

For the anti-oxidant properties and osteopathic benefits there are many other reviews to consider from customers that have made direct connections between their health condition before and after taking this product. For my arthritic conditions I take some prescription meds and other supplements so it would not be fair to attribute any Astaxanthin properties to the control of my condition in spite of the fact that it may very well be helpful.One of the other intriguing things that inspired me to buy this supplement was its almost miraculous skin protection from the sun. Before buying I researched clinical studies available online and I was quite impressed. The stats seemed incontrovertible. After 10 months of use I can contribute first hand experience. I am retired. After 40 years I recently moved from sunny southern California, to sunny and off the charts hot Phoenix Arizona. I arrived here in April last year at the very beginning of the traditionally brutally hot Phoenix summer. In CA I rode a bicycle a minimum of 7 miles per day every day of the week for overall health benefits and enjoyment. By the time I arrived here though my strength and stamina had increased to the point where I was riding a minimum of 15 miles per day every day. The sun here is relentless and daily summer temps averaged 112 and above! The increased intensity of the sun here compared to CA (irrespective of temps) became quite obvious and within weeks of riding here I realized I was putting my skin more at risk than ever before.Multiply 15 miles of biking daily for the last 10 months in Phoenix sun exposure and consider this. I don't wear sunscreen. I have not even been close to experiencing sunburn. My skin condition if anything is better than ever. The tan on my exposed areas, legs, face arms is more beautiful and mellow than I can ever remember. I highly recommend this supplement for active sun worshippers,and who knows, the osteopathic and homeopathic properties extolled by others could be a wonderful side benefit.
